The result extends the story we saw in the first quarter, but the detail is important for buyers. The growth is not evenly spread across every riding category. Off-road motorcycles did most of the heavy lifting, rising 21.6 per cent to 20,417 units. By contrast, road motorcycles were almost flat, dipping 0.5 per cent to 16,170 units, while scooters slipped 2.7 per cent to 2,672 units. Off-highway vehicles were essentially unchanged at 6,764 sales.
For riders considering finance, this split matters. Strong off-road demand can influence dealer stock levels, wait times and the confidence retailers have when negotiating on popular trail, youth and recreational models. Buyers shopping in the fastest-moving categories may find fewer incentives on sought-after bikes, while those looking at road bikes or scooters may have more room to compare price, accessories, trade-in value and finance structure.
It is also a timely reminder that the advertised ride-away price is only one part of the decision. A motorcycle loan needs to work around the full cost of ownership, including protective gear, registration, insurance, servicing, transport equipment and accessories. A sharper purchase price can still become expensive if the loan term is stretched too far or if fees lift the comparison rate beyond the headline interest rate.
Before signing, buyers should pressure-test the deal against a few practical questions:
The FCAI figures also come with a caveat: they only cover member brands. Some popular names, including several value-focused and emerging brands, are not captured in the official audit. That means the real market may be larger than the reported total, and buyers should avoid relying on headline sales data alone when judging availability or value.
For Australian riders, the takeaway is encouraging but measured. Demand is healthy, especially in off-road segments, yet borrowing conditions remain competitive and highly personal. If you are preparing to buy, take time to compare options, model repayments and match the finance term to the way you actually plan to ride.
