New Murray River Boat Show Puts Regional Buyers in Focus

Why a Yarrawonga event could reshape how families plan their next boat purchase

The Boating Industry Association of Victoria has named Yarrawonga as the host location for the Murray River Boat Show in 2027, adding another regional event to Australia’s growing boating calendar.
Scheduled for 12-14 March 2027, the inaugural show will bring dealers, marine brands and boating services to the Lake Mulwala and Murray River precinct, a region already closely associated with waterskiing, freshwater fishing and family boating.

For buyers, the announcement matters because regional shows often create a more practical path to purchase than large capital-city exhibitions. Instead of viewing vessels in a setting far removed from everyday use, visitors will be able to assess boats in an environment similar to where many will actually launch, tow, store and enjoy them. That can be particularly useful for buyers weighing up whether a ski boat, fishing platform, trailer boat or family runabout suits their lifestyle and budget.

The event follows BIAV’s recent regional show strategy, including Geelong in 2025 and Gippsland Lakes in 2026. Yarrawonga is around three hours north of Melbourne and sits near the Victorian-New South Wales border, giving the show access to prospective buyers from northeast Victoria, southern NSW and established Murray River boating communities. Waterfront displays, on-water activations and boat demonstrations are expected to be part of the format, alongside tourism, food and community elements designed to broaden the event beyond a standard showroom experience.

Several well-known dealers and brands are already connected with the event, including Yarrawonga Marine, Boats and More Shepparton, Solar City Marine, Bar Crusher, Whittley, Malibu, MasterCraft, Nautique and Lewis Ski Boats. That mix suggests the show will speak strongly to watersports families, trailerable boat buyers and owners considering an upgrade before the next summer season.

From a finance perspective, the key message is preparation. Boat shows can be exciting, but they can also compress decision-making. Buyers who arrive with a clear budget, an understanding of trade-in value, and a sense of likely repayments are usually better placed to negotiate confidently. Before attending, it may be worth comparing finance options and modelling repayments across different loan terms, deposit levels and purchase prices.

This announcement also extends a broader theme in the market: boating demand is not only concentrated around major metropolitan events. Regional destinations with strong boating cultures are becoming more visible in the buying journey, and that could give Australian families more opportunities to inspect boats, ask practical questions and plan finance around how they genuinely use the water.
