As the Australian boating industry approaches the 2025 summer season, recent data indicates a stabilising market with Yamaha retaining its position as the most-searched marine brand.
According to Retain Media's Q3 2025 Marine Market Brand Consideration Report, Yamaha holds an 8.4% share of search interest, maintaining its lead despite a modest 7.6% quarterly decline.

The report highlights a marine market finding its footing after earlier volatility. Sea-Doo has rebounded to second place with a 7.6% share, while Mercury Marine holds third at 6.3%. This suggests that both operators and consumers are settling into more predictable patterns as the prime Australian boating season approaches.

Personal watercraft (PWC) have shown a notable resurgence. Sea-Doo posted a 5.5% quarterly increase, reclaiming its second position after a turbulent year that saw its share drop from 13.5% in Q4 2024 to 7.2% by Q2 2025. This rebound indicates renewed consumer interest in PWCs, aligning with the broader trend of increasing PWC registrations noted in the BIA report.

Other notable movements include Beneteau, which rounded out the top 10 with a 3% share, gaining 7.1% from 2.8% in Q2 and climbing 0.6 percentage points year-on-year. The French sail and powerboat manufacturer's steady growth reflects consistent interest across both sailing and motor yacht segments.

For prospective boat buyers, these trends offer valuable insights. The stabilisation of the market suggests a return to more predictable pricing and availability, potentially making it an opportune time to invest in a vessel. However, it's crucial for buyers to conduct thorough research and consider factors such as brand reputation, resale value, and after-sales support when making a purchase.

Additionally, with the resurgence of interest in personal watercraft, potential buyers should be aware of the associated costs, including maintenance, insurance, and storage. Understanding these factors can help in making informed decisions and ensuring a satisfying boating experience.

In summary, the Australian marine market's current trajectory indicates a stabilising environment with leading brands like Yamaha maintaining their positions. For individuals considering entering the boating world, this period presents promising opportunities, provided they approach their purchase decisions with careful consideration and due diligence.
