In a significant move for Australia's outdoor recreation sector, the Boating Industry Association (BIA) and the Australian Fishing Trade Association (AFTA) have formalised an agreement to collaborate more closely.
This partnership is designed to benefit their combined membership base and bolster support for boat-based fishing across the nation.

BIA CEO Andrew Fielding highlighted the importance of this agreement, noting that it recognises the significance of boat-based fishing in Australia. He emphasised that while the two organisations have worked together informally in recent years, this formal agreement allows them to take their collaboration to another level for the benefit of their members and the public.

AFTA President Michael Starkey echoed these sentiments, pointing out the significant opportunities to work closer together in many areas, including research, data, and events, while strengthening the advocacy work of both organisations. He mentioned the potential to collaborate on boat and fishing shows across Australia and to explore opportunities for future events where they work together.

The agreement encompasses various areas of collaboration, including data sharing, communications, marketing, advertising, events, business systems, revenue streams, advocacy, and support for boat-based fishing. Together, BIA and AFTA represent a combined contribution to the Australian economy of $21 billion in annual industry turnover and support for 135,000 jobs.

For boating and fishing enthusiasts, this partnership promises enhanced experiences and support. The collaboration is expected to lead to more integrated events, improved resources, and stronger advocacy for policies that benefit the boating and fishing communities. Additionally, the combined efforts in research and data collection can provide valuable insights into industry trends, helping businesses and consumers make informed decisions.

In conclusion, the formalised partnership between BIA and AFTA marks a significant step forward for Australia's boating and fishing industries. By working together, these organisations aim to strengthen support for boat-based fishing, enhance industry events, and provide greater value to their members and the wider public.
