ANZ is poised to officially acquire Suncorp's banking sector on August 1, following recent modifications to Queensland's legislative framework essential for the $4.9 billion transaction.

This recent legislative amendment, formally known as the State Financial Institutions and Metway Merger Amendment Bill, was the last remaining obstacle. With this adjustment in state law, Suncorp’s banking division is now set to transition seamlessly into ANZ’s portfolio.

ANZ representatives stated that the legislative approval signals the final preparation phase for the acquisition, initially declared back in July 2022. Following this regulatory milestone, ANZ will integrate approximately 3000 employees and welcome 1.2 million new customers into their banking operations on August 1, 2024.

The deal, which was first unveiled almost two years ago, hinged upon critical endorsements from several authorities. These included the Treasurer's approval, receiving the green light from competition regulators, and necessitating specific legislative adjustments in Queensland. Now, with all boxes ticked, ANZ is prepared to absorb Suncorp's banking clientele and workforce.

The Reserve Bank’s latest decision to keep the cash rate steady gives Australian boat buyers a useful moment to pause, but it should not be mistaken for a guarantee that borrowing costs will stay simple or uniform. For households looking at a first trailer boat, a fishing upgrade, a personal watercraft or a larger family cruiser, the lending market remains highly dependent on borrower profile, boat type, deposit size, loan structure and lender appetite. - read more

Financial hardship support is back in the spotlight across Australia’s lending market, with regulators and consumer advocates paying closer attention to how banks and non-bank lenders respond when borrowers ask for help. For households and small business owners already dealing with higher living costs, tax obligations, insurance premiums and uneven cash flow, this is more than a compliance story. It is a practical reminder that loan stress should be addressed before it becomes a missed-payment pattern. - read more

Card Spending Trends Keep Personal Loan Planning in Focus

The Reserve Bank of Australia’s latest retail payments update offers another useful snapshot of how households are managing everyday spending, card use and short-term credit. While payment data is not the same as loan approval data, it can still tell borrowers something important: the way money moves through a household each month can affect how comfortable a lender feels about future repayments. - read more

Why Online Caravan Listings Need More Care Before You Pay
17 Sep 2026: Paige Estritori
Fresh consumer warnings about online vehicle scams are a timely reminder for caravan buyers to slow down before transferring deposits, sharing identity documents or arranging settlement. Caravans, camper trailers and motorhomes are high-value assets, and that makes them attractive targets for fake listings, cloned advertisements and sellers who pressure buyers to act quickly. - read more
Why Spring Car Loan Offers Need More Than a Rate Check
Why Spring Car Loan Offers Need More Than a Rate Check
17 Sep 2026: Paige Estritori
Recent comparison-market updates suggest Australian car buyers are entering spring with more choice, but not necessarily a simpler decision. Some lenders continue to advertise sharp secured car loan rates, particularly for borrowers with strong credit profiles and newer vehicles. Yet the gap between an appealing headline rate and the amount a borrower actually pays over the life of the loan remains a major issue for households and small businesses planning their next vehicle purchase. - read more
